Mr Bear Branches and the cloud conundrum | Author: Terri Rose Baynton | Age: 4+ years

Bear walking over hill

Mr Bear Branches is a thinker, Lintfrey Longfellow is a dreamer and they are the very best of friends. They love walking and talking together and most of all they love to lie in the grass and watch the clouds. Lintfrey Longfellow’s biggest wish is to lie on top of the clouds. Mr Bear Branches explains Lintfrey all about condensation and evaporation. But then he realises that exploring the wonders of the natural world can be magical, too.

Take the children to an outdoor area and invite them to lie on the grass and watch the clouds drift by. A wonderful opportunity to ask questions and raise hypothesises. What do the children think the clouds feel like? Are they heavy or light? Dry or wet? Hot or cold? Fluffy or rough? Why do the clouds move? Can the children spot shapes that remind them of something?

With our book recommendations, we want to help you spark a conversation that leads children to discover STEM in their everyday lives. Have the courage to go beyond the obvious STEM connections and embrace all questions that may come out of your discussion with the children.
