Keen to undertake inquiry-based STEM project work, but not sure how to start? Watch our video interviews with educators from Little Scientists Houses across Australia to learn about the inspiring projects they’ve co-developed with their children.

Since 2025, Little Scientists has offered Little Scientists Houses the opportunity to partake in a short video interview to showcase their inquiry-based STEM projects. We’ve loved making these videos! ❤️ Not only do we feature each video on the Little Scientists website and social media, each Little Scientists House also receives a copy to use for their own promotional purposes.

Little Scientists House certification is a way to recognise early learning services and classrooms that are committed to best practice early STEM education. To become certified, a service will co-develop an inquiry-based STEM project with their children and they can also enter this project in the biennial Little Scientists Early STEM Education Awards (coming up next in 2026).

Bagdad Education and Care, TAS

Their project, Will the ropes break under our weight?, involved the children experimenting with ropes and physics to test hypotheses about the properties of ropes and how to strengthen them.

Spotted Frog Kindergarten, NSW

Their project, The Mighty Mathematicians, involved the children developing tally systems to keep track of their toys and developing their identities as capable, confident mathematicians.

Little Ducks Childcare Bardon, QLD

Their project, What’s inside the pumpkin?, involved the children exploring pumpkin seeds, the lifecycle of a pumpkin, and how to make pumpkin soup.

Brenbeal Children’s Centre, VIC

Their project, Saving Private Snail: How can we protect a snail from being crushed?, involved the children designing, building, and testing structures to protect a snail from danger.

German International School Sydney, NSW

Their project, What can you hear?, involved the children investigating acoustics by exploring vibrations, musical instruments, and the human body.

Pre-Primary Moerlina School, WA

Their project, How can we have a market that makes money?, involved the children running a market to raise money for a water tank while learning about money, sorting, counting, and teamwork.

Froebel Alexandria Early Learning Centre, NSW

Their project, How can we make apples sink?, involved the children experimenting with a variety of liquids and ingredients to explore density and buoyancy. 

Uranquinty Preschool, NSW

Their project, What happens when you mix light and colour?, involved the children exploring how colours interact with light by layering and combining materials to discover new colours. 

Ruth Landau Harp Early Learning, WA

Their project, How can we help Mr Hippo come down safely?, saw children experimenting with blocks and building materials to design a ladder, inspired by “There’s a Hippopotamus on Our Roof Eating Cake” by Hazel Edwards.

Chermside Early Education Centre, QLD

Their project, Where does water go?, involved the children investigating how fast water evaporates from different surfaces such as cement, grass, and sand.

Kiddies Hut @ Diamond Beach, NSW

Their project, How are towns & communities planned?, involved the children experimenting with blocks, mini figures, and chalk to build their own town.

Little Treasures Childcare Greta, NSW

Their project, How can we build a scarecrow?, involved the children exploring materials of different shapes, colours, and textures to build an effective scarecrow.

Bush Babies Childcare, NSW

Their project, Why are there clouds in the sky?, involved the children exploring how clouds are formed, different types of clouds, and the process of evaporation.

Leaps and Bounds Preschool Highgate, WA

Their project, How can we make our playground safe?, involved the children exploring different hazards in their play area and ways to prevent injury, including jumping and landing on soft mats.

Froebel Fitzroy North Early Learning Centre, VIC

Their project, Reuse, Recycle, Repurpose!, involved the children experimenting with recycled materials like lids and cardboard boxes to build their own robots and steam trains.

Sweetpeas Kindergarten & Long Day Care Penrith Service, NSW

Their project, How does food digest in the body?, involved the children exploring the digestive system and how food goes from the garden, to the kitchen, and into the human body.

Spotted Frog Kindergarten’s project “The Mighty Mathematicians” involved experimenting with maths strategies, such as counting, classifying, and tallies to keep track of their toys.
Bagdad Education and Care’s project involved children experimenting with ropes, physics, and motion to test hypotheses around the properties of ropes and how to strengthen them. For example, the children experimented with lifting milk crates off the ground by tying them to a rope and extending this over a tree.
