Why? What? How? When? Why?
Ada Twist is full of questions about the world she lives in. When she comes across a mystery, she learns all she can on the subject, then comes up with a hypothesis and tests it. As her experiments are often messy, Ada’s parents try to punish her, but eventually, they realise that they need to nurture their child’s curiosity rather than try to rein it in:
“They remade their world – now they’re all in the act
of helping young Ada sort fiction from fact.”
The book is such a lovely illustration of what we at Little Scientists believe in so firmly: Every child is curious and needs to be given the opportunity to learn about the world in a hands-on way.
Observe the children around you. What are their questions? Which mysteries are they trying to understand? How can you encourage and support them along the way?
With our book recommendations, we want to spark an interest in children to discover STEM in their everyday lives. Most books go beyond the obvious STEM connections and can be a great starting point for exploring children’s questions and ideas further.
