Am I yours?

A strong wind separates an egg from its parents and one by one the dinosaurs ask it questions to find out by process of elimination, which species it belongs to. After hearing them describe their own physical properties, such as the crest on their head, longish neck or three sharp horns, the little voice coming from inside the egg rules them out as potential parents one by one. Finally, the setting sun illuminates the egg, allowing the dinosaurs to identify the shape and return the egg to its rightful owners, a couple of pterosaurs.

Which animals could you identify just from their shapes? You could try this out using toy animals and light and shadow. What features in animals do children know that help us classify animals? Are all of these visible? This can easily turn into a game, where one child is inside an “egg”, pretending to be an animal and the other children ask them questions about the animal’s physical features. The child can only “hatch” from the egg, once the correct species has been revealed.
