Avocado baby

A baby is born into a weak family and refuses to eat until it is given mashed avocado one day. From then on, the baby eats avocados and grows ridiculously strong so that it can fight off burglars and move furniture around. A great example for adults’ and children’s different approach to stories, this may leave grown-ups looking for a message a bit puzzled, while children find the absurdity hilarious.
You can have lots of fun with the children coming up with other heroically strong feats the baby could accomplish before you go on to discuss some of the topics touched on by the story. What makes you strong? What can and can’t babies do? Do certain types of food make you strong? You could even do a research product on avocados: What do they taste like? What can we cook or bake with them? Can we grow a plant from the seed?
With our book recommendations, we want to spark an interest in children to discover STEM in their everyday lives. Most books go beyond the obvious STEM connections and can be a great starting point for exploring children’s questions and ideas further.
