In the face of the stresses and uncertainties of the current world, educators and carers can help children to learn about techniques and strategies to release stress and to calm the body and mind.
The book Breathe is a beautiful introduction to mindfulness and meditation and addresses preschool-aged children.
The protagonist is a young boy who can’t sleep. His mother shows him new ways to move his body and to notice his breath that calm himself and make him feel comfortable. By imagining mountains or animals, blowing balloons or sailing boats, smelling roses, launching rockets or growing like a tree – the book wonderfully combines prior knowledge of the children with breathing techniques that can help young children to calm their minds and release tensions.
With our book recommendations, we want to spark an interest in children to discover STEM in their everyday lives. Most books go beyond the obvious STEM connections and can be a great starting point for exploring children’s questions and ideas further.
