Take this opportunity to travel the world with the children, inspecting different kinds of wonderful bridges, each fulfilling a particular purpose, constructed using different methods and materials and located in a variety of settings.
Take on the perspective of an architect, engineer, ship captain or pedestrian wanting to get to the other side of the river. Talk about the glimpses of different cultures and environments you get from the background – how do the bridges fit in with buildings and landscapes? What bridges have the children crossed? Which bridge from the book do they like best? Do they want to design and build their own bridge?
With our book recommendations, we want to spark an interest in children to discover STEM in their everyday lives. Most books go beyond the obvious STEM connections and can be a great starting point for exploring children’s questions and ideas further.
