Many Moons

Many Moons book cover

The endless fascination of the Moon as it waxes and wanes is richly displayed in the book Many Moons by Remi Curgeon. Printed on thick cardboard and using high-contrast colours, the book is a great starting point to explore the lunar cycle with very young children.

Bold illustrations compare the different Moon phases to various everyday objects, from the bow a young boy uses to shoot arrows to a cat’s tail or a banana.

Ask the children if they have watched the Moon recently. What was its shape? Can the children think of other objects that have the shape of the Moon? With older children you could explore the different phases of the Moon a bit further. All you need is a ball, a lamp and a pencil.
