The book comprises two parts, one to be read from the left, the other from the right. The unique design of the book allows the children to experience a day in the lives of two boys and their families simultaneously, one in Australia and the other in Morocco. The wordless story introduces children to different cultures with different lifestyles, landscapes, clothing and habits and shows beautifully that, despite all these differences, families are important everywhere.
Why do the children think the book is called “Mirror”? Where do they start reading the stories and how do the sequences unfold? Let the children describe the surrounding, clothing, animals and landscape on each page. What are the boys doing? Are any of these activities familiar to the children? What do they do in their everyday lives with their families?
With our book recommendations, we want to spark an interest in children to discover STEM in their everyday lives. Most books go beyond the obvious STEM connections and can be a great starting point for exploring children’s questions and ideas further.
