This is a great book to spark the imagination and train the observation skills of children of all ages. The beautiful Indigenous representation of contemporary Australian landscapes are complemented by the poetic descriptions of a country where “majestic mountains merge easily with a long horizon”. Invite the children to point out their favourite shapes and colours in the book. How do the landscapes make them feel? Where would they feel most at home? Which shapes and colours do they see around them?
Encourage the children to spot shapes around them. Can they draw them? Can they create beautiful descriptions for their landscapes?
With our book recommendations, we want to spark an interest in children to discover STEM in their everyday lives. Most books go beyond the obvious STEM connections and can be a great starting point for exploring children’s questions and ideas further.
