Our favourite 3: Design and technologies

children's books design and technologies

Technology is both the stuff of ancient tales and science fiction – a constant companion of humans through time. Almost every daily activity, object or mode of transport can become subject of the children’s investigation. Children can invent new technology to fulfil a wish or need, or they can optimise an existing piece of technology. There is no limit to children’s imagination and creativity!

As the story of Papa’s mechanical fish shows, any question can lead to so much investigation! “Have you ever wondered what it’s like to be a fish? What prototypes can the children design and develop to find out?

How do dinosaurs eat their food? raises another interesting question that the children can explore by designing and constructing dinosaur furniture, crockery and cutlery. How would you hold a cup if you had long claws?

Illustrating that necessity truly is the mother of invention, the ancient tale of The crow and the pitcher is about solving the existential problem of getting access to water.
