What makes me a me?

Following the main character’s search for an explanation of his individuality reads very similar to a child-led inquiry-based project.
The child uses all his senses to compare himself to other people, things and animals. He looks around, compares noises and develops a set of criteria for his comparisons, including speed, size, age, shape and behaviour.
In the end, however, he can’t pin down what exactly makes him himself and concludes that “everyone’s different in their own special way”.
Maybe we can’t find an explanation for everything in life but we usually still learn something during our investigations. What can the children find out about themselves?
With our book recommendations, we want to spark an interest in children to discover STEM in their everyday lives. Most books go beyond the obvious STEM connections and can be a great starting point for exploring children’s questions and ideas further.
