The cow who tilted the boat, the donkey who balanced her weight, the pig who stepped in at the side or the mouse, lightest of all – do you know who sank the boat? This book is an excellent choice if you would like to explore water displacement with the children.
This could lead into projects on investigating the best ways to get into a boat or even building model boats and trying out how much weight these can carry and how it can be distributed.
We love that the story hinges on the underlying laws of physics, of which the children are often already aware. Books like this help us talk about these laws and research them with the children so that they become more conscious of them and gain a deeper understanding.
With our book recommendations, we want to spark an interest in children to discover STEM in their everyday lives. Most books go beyond the obvious STEM connections and can be a great starting point for exploring children’s questions and ideas further.
